The Six Nations has passed for another year leaving a raft of questions in its wake. Were Italy’s tactics against England in the spirit of the game, do HIA processes need to be reviewed and did the bonus point format result in any change in the style of rugby played? Whatever your views on the various controversies, undoubtedly this year the result was far from a foregone conclusion with many games coming down to the wire. Indeed, as a Guardian article highlighted, ‘but for one England try the six nations would have been a five way tie.’
Amidst all the excitement therefore you may have missed another key moment in the development of the game of rugby. On Saturday 11th March touring teams from Marple RUFC engaged with Derby RFC in a series of matches. The players, who were drawn from the U6 to U9 age ranges, showcased their talents in front of a cheering crowd of supporters before lending their own support as the Derby 1st fifteen took on Litchfield.
The Derby and Marple Mini players may be at the beginning of their rugby adventures but they are already picking up a lot of the skills which one day may see some of them on the Lions tour. BRS are therefore proud to be associated with both the Derby and Marple clubs and to have been able to sponsor this precursor to Lions glory. We’d like to thank all those who joined in the sponsorship for the event as well as those who provided ample food and drink and laid on entertainment for the junior teams.
